California Living: Home Style Tips

By Hannah Bright · February 2026

Sunlit living room with neutral coastal styling

You do not need a renovation to make buyers fall for your home — or to love it more yourself. After staging hundreds of listings, these are the small moves with outsized impact on the California coast.

Let the light do the work

Wash the windows inside and out, trim anything shadowing the glass, and swap heavy drapes for linen sheers. Bright rooms photograph larger and feel calmer — the two things every buyer pays for.

Layer natural texture

Jute, rattan, white oak, limewashed walls — coastal style is a palette you can touch. Two or three natural materials per room is plenty; more starts to feel themed rather than timeless.

Buyers decide how a home feels within seconds. Texture and light are what they are actually reacting to.

Give every room a job

That awkward corner becomes a reading nook with one chair and a floor lamp; the spare room becomes an office, not storage. Defined purpose helps buyers picture their own life unfolding there.

Selling soon? I include a room-by-room styling plan with every listing — ask me for yours.
